DJ Food - Raiding The 20th Century Mix
Dies ist der zweihundertste Blogpost auf realvinylz.de und das ist natürlich auch sowas wie ein kleines Jubiläum. Ich hatte in meinem letzten Post - über das Buch Words and Music von Paul Morley - schon den MashUp-Pastiche-Mix Raiding the 20th Century von DJ Food erwähnt, der quasi die musikalische Version des Buches von Morley darstellt und tatsächlich von einem Alvin Lucier-Sample eröffnet und von Kylie Minogues ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ beendet wird.
Gleichzeitig fasst dieser Mix vieles, was auf der letztwöchigen Veranstaltung Recyling_Sampling_Jamming verhandelt wurde, besser zusammen, als es eine minutiöse Wiedergabe der Fülle an Vorträgen, Diskussionen und Musikbeispielen leisten könnte. Strictly Kev hat den Mix am 18ten Januar 2004 auf XFM’s The Remix Show in London gesendet und damit einen auditiven Katalog der Geschichte der Cut-Up Musik erstellt. Part 1 beginnt mit einem Rundumschlag bekannter Bastardpop Mash-Ups um den Sachverhalt vorzustellen und leitet über zur Historie in Part 2: Avantgarde Tape Manipulation, Minimal Musik und Musique Concrète.
Part 3 featured mit Turntable-Megamixen und Cut n’ Paste-Tracks von u.v.a. Bomb The Bass, Coldcut, M/A/R/R/S, Mantronix und Steinski die Old School der Samplekunst, während Part 4 gewissermaßen die New School repräsentiert. Part 5 stellt dann die Synthese in Form populärer Bastardpop Mash-Ups - wie in Part 1 angerissen - dar.
Eine Reise die den auditiven Cortex neu formatiert. Let’s Begin!
